Breaking News: Tottenham Sack Harry Redknapp
Spurs have sacked manager Harry Redknapp. The news broke late on Wednesday night after Redknapp met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. Redknapp had one year left on his current deal at White Hart Lane but had yet to be offered a new contract with the club.
The 65-year-old Redknapp succeeded Juande Ramos in October 2008 after Tottenham started the 2008-09 season with just two points from their first eight games. In his second season in charge with the club Redknapp guided Spurs into the Champions League; he followed that up with a fifth place finish in 2010-11 and also reached the quarter-final of the Champions League. However, the club’s fourth-placed finish last season was not enough for Champions League qualification after Chelsea won the competition, although a run of just five wins from thire last 13 Premier League games cost Spurs a third place finish. Much was put down to Fabio Capello’s departure from the England job and rumours linking Redknapp with the post.
Everton boss David Moyes is the bookmakers’ early favourite for the job with Wigan boss Roberto Martinez not far behind; however some sources are suggesting that he is more likely than Moyes to get the job.
