Nigeria has recently been a sweet haven for fire hazards. pulling down buildings irrespective of the owner. Seems like former president Olusegun Obasanjo isn't among those to escape the wrath of fire this year as his Hitltop Mansion in Ogun state caught fire today. the cause of the fire is still yet to be ascertained.

BREAKING NEWS: Fire guts NAFDAC warehouse in Lagos

Vanguard just reported the  incidence of Fire outbreak in NAFDAC warehouse Lagos.

According to an  eyewitness, the fire started about 7:45pm, Friday.

However, security officials refused journalists entrance into the premises, but eyewitnesses say no life was lost in the inferno.

Vanguard gathered that fire fighters arrived the scene at about 8:45pm.

The warehouse houses seized fake and unwholesome food, drug and pharmaceutical products.

Confirming the incident in a telephone chat with Vanguard, NAFDAC Director of Communication, Alhaji Abubakar Jimoh said the fire was caused by an electrical fault, adding that it was not the first time the Agency had experienced such. “It recently happened in Port Harcourt office.”

He said the fire affected the section housing the fake drugs and other products. It is not the first time NAFDAC is experiencing this kind of electrical fire.

Fire Guts Murtala International Airport Lagos

Fire due to electrical fault was on Thursday morning reported at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

An eyewitness said the fire emanated from some cables, which apparently melted under heat, as some welders were working at the extension of ‘D’ Wing of the international airport.

Airport officials swiftly cut off power supply to the arrival and departure halls, in order to forestall any untoward development and isolated the scene of the spark.

Billows of smoke were observed rising to the sky from behind the arrival hall.

Fire fighters were also deployed in the affected area and were able to put the situation under control.

Securitymen also erected a metal barricade around the site.

Power supply was restored to the airport terminal within a few minutes.

Flight operations were, however, not affected while the incident lasted.

In a separate incident, a cargo plane blew off the roof of a parking lot at the airport on Wednesday night, causing damage to some cars.

The extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.

JOS, Nigeria, Sept 14 (Reuters) – Nigerian troops fired into the air on Friday to disperse Muslims protesting in the city of Jos against an American film about the Prophet Mohammad that has triggered unrest in several countries across the Islamic world.

Nigeria’s police have ordered 24-hour security around all foreign embassies, and the U.S. embassy in Abuja issued an emergency warning to its citizens in Nigeria, where radical Islamist sect Boko Haram has killed hundreds this year in an insurgency against the Nigerian government.

Scores of Muslim demonstrators distributed photographs printed out from the trailer of the film, which Muslims say insults the Prophet Mohammad, after Friday prayers in the central city of Jos. They then marched down the main Bauchi Road shouting “God is Greatest!” a Reuters witness said.

The military deployed to block them, firing live rounds into the air and ordering them to disperse.full details inside

In the far northern city of Sokoto, on the threshold of the Sahara desert, thousands of people marched peacefully carrying placards reading “Down with America” and “We love our Prophet”, under a light security presence.

While both protests were peaceful, security forces have low tolerance for public demonstrations in Jos, a violence-prone city in Nigeria’s “Middlebelt”, where the country’s mostly Christian south and largely Muslim north meet.

Protests frequently erupt into ethnic and sectarian killing in Jos and surrounding Plateau state.“We succeeded in dispelling what would have been a full blown protest,” Captain Salisu Mustapha, spokesman for the military and police Joint Taskforce for Plateau said by telephone.

In Kaduna, further north, police commissioner Olufemi Adenaike banned protests about the film, he said in a statement “to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the peaceful protest due to the already volatile security condition of the state.”

In Kano, the north’s biggest city, there were no demonstrations but the military beefed up security, deploying troops across the metropolis.

Western embassies have been attacked in Libya, where the U.S. ambassador was killed on Tuesday, Egypt, Sudan and Tunisia.

India train fire kills 47! (Most Killed Were Sleeping Passengers)

At least 47 people have been killed in a fire on a passenger train travelling in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, officials say.

One coach of the Tamil Nadu Express from Delhi to Chennai caught fire as it was passing through Nellore station early on Monday. see full details inside

The cause of the blaze is still unclear, but authorities suspect an electrical short circuit.

Accidents are common on India’s immense state-owned rail network.

In May, 24 people were killed when a passenger train crashed into a goods train, also in Andhra Pradesh state.

Most of the passengers were asleep when the fire broke out at 04:20 local time (22:50 GMT), said B Sridhar, head of Nellore’s district administration.

Some of them managed to jump off the moving train before it came to a halt, but 28 passengers in the coach were injured and taken to local hospitals.

The town of Nellore is about 500km (310 miles) south of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh’s district capital.

“I woke up after hearing loud screams. All I could see is black smoke,” Y Sampath, a software engineer who managed to escape the blaze, told The Hindu newspaper.

He was travelling with his sister, who is missing, the newspaper said.

The affected coach was completely gutted and rescue teams had to break in using special equipment.

Train accidents in India have killed 1,220 people over the past five years, railway officials recently revealed.

India’s railway operates 9,000 passenger trains and carries some 18 million passengers every day, connecting every corner of the country.

Rihanna Escapes Fire At London Hotel

In the wee hours of morning, the London Fire Brigade reports that Rihanna, along with 300 people, were evacuated from their hotel after an early-morning fire in an elevator shaft.  And as 10 firefighters fought the flames on the 7th floor of the luxury Corinthia Hotel. RiRi hopped herself in a cab and rode around the city tweeting “Roamin da streets since 6am! Fyah in da telly.”

She was spotted signing autographs as she left her hotel.

Fire outbreak reported at NIMASA building in Lagos

Vanguard – The headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency was on Wednesday morning engulfed in a fire.

The building is located at 4, Burma Road, Apapa, Lagos.

The cause of the fire or the extent of damage could not be ascertained at the time of posting this update.

But rescuers and fire fighters have been deployed in the area and are batling the blaze.
