Biafran Soldiers Protest In Ibadan

Un confirmed report from Naij has it that Hundreds of angry Biafran military  pensioners in the country Monday besieged the Oyo State Secretariat saying they regretted fighting against Biafran soldiers to ensure the unity of the country.
They said if they had known that the country would repay them in this wicked manner, they would have fought for the survival and sovereignty of Biafra.

The retired soldiers who spoke through their Chairman, Mr.  Mr. Gabriel Oiakhena said, “we have been pushed to the wall. The families of over 500,000 soldiers who lost their lives in Biafra are suffering.
We who are alive are just living as destitute. Many of us have died because they did not have money to treat and fend for themselves. Senator David Mark has spent about twelve years and he has done nothing for us.
When the militants were pushed to the wall, they took up arms and fought with the last pint of their blood”.
Also speaking on the issue, another ex-soldier, Mr. Olatunji Johnson said they came to draw the attention of Federal Government to their 53 per cent unpaid arrears and other allowances.
To prevent breakdown of law and order, all gates leading to the secretariat complex were shut against the angry pensioners.
Armoured Personnel Carrier, five police Hilux Vans and scores of armed policemen were stationed at the entrance of the secretariat.
Displaying the injuries they sustained in the Biafran War and many placards condemning the discouraging attitude of the government, they said it was unfortunate that they were being treated in this inhuman manner after fighting for the unity of the country.
He said their mission to the office of Governor Abiola Ajimobi was to present a letter on their plight to him for onward delivery to President Goddluck Jonathan.
He said, “we will not allow the government to rest until our money and other entitlements are paid. Many of us are still being paid N10,000 as monthly pension while they are wasting millions over there. It is not fair”.

Biafra group insists on November 5 declaration

The Biafra Zionist Movement (BZM) has restated its determination to go ahead with the November 5 declaration of a Republic of Biafra. It has also called on the Igbos and politicians from the South East to forget about the 2015 presidential bid as it would no longer be necessary. The group advised the apex Igbo socio-cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo to concentrate on how to recover Igbo territories ceded to Rivers, Delta and Kogi States rather than pursuing shadows.
National secretary of BZM Nweke M. Nweke told reporters in Enugu that as long as the BZM was concerned, the Ohanaeze members had not shown enough commitment to the interest of the Igbo ethnic nationality in Nigeria. Nweke expressed regrets that Ohanaeze could not take one stand on the continued relegation of the Igbo in Nigeria and had failed to unite the leaders in the zone for the people to make a political headway. “
They should drop this talk about the 2015 presidency and concentrate on how to reclaim our brothers and sisters in Rivers, Delta and Kogi states. “This is important now because these people that were enticed into believing that they are not Igbos will not forgive us in future when the chips are down.” The organization which has reserved November 5 for the re-declaration of the sovereign state of Biafra said there was no going back on that date.
He hinted that their leader, Mr. Ben Onwuka who is now in the United States canvassing for support, would be back soon for the“ epoch making occasion.” It is the belief of the group that the United States must fully be involved for Biafra to be actualized.
The group’s leader while in the US, would liaise with United States-based Biafra groups such as Biafra Foundation and Biafra Government in Exile (BGI) on the November 5 re-declaration. The group praised the Nigerian security for the way they related with them, adding that that was informed by their matured approach to their cause.

MASSOB Not Part of November 5th Biafra Declaration – Uwazuruike

Leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday dissociated the movement from the proposed November 5 declaration of sovereign state of Biafra. The Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, another Biafra separatist group, had disclosed in a statement recently that it would formally declare a sovereign state of Biafra on November 5. The leader of the group, Mazi Benjamin Onwuka, who spoke with journalists in Enugu, recently, said they were now seeking the backing of the United States of America, Russia, China, Britain and France as permanent members of the United Nations to realise that lofty objective because the agitation for Biafra could not be achieved without the assistance of the international community. full deets inside

But in his reaction to the declaration statement, Uwazuruike told journalists in a telephone interview yesterday that MASSOB was not part of any plan by any person or group of persons to declare a sovereign Biafran Republic on November 5 or any other date.

He added that MASSOB, as a non-violent organisation, would not identify with any agenda that would imply taking up arms or engaging in any form of violence to realise the Biafra man-date, which, he said, was becoming more feasible by the day.

“I am not aware of any date. MASSOB is not a party to any plan to em-ploy violence as a means of pursuing our agenda.

We are non-violent and we will remain so.

It is true that in this struggle, we have splinter groups, but I am not aware of what happens in their camp nor do I support their plan of ac-tion,” Uwazuruike said.

The MASSOB leader added that the agitation for sovereign state of Biafra was beyond verbal threats and counter-threats.

He said his group was still on course and would not be distracted by activities of other groups who might want to disagree with MASSOB’s non-violent stance.

He said: “MASSOB is very much focused and the liberation of Ndigbo is still our priority but we will not allow unnecessary sentiments to dictate our mode of operations.

MASSOB should be counted out completely from the purported November 5 ultimatum as we are not part of it and will never be.

“MASSOB will achieve Biafra Republic without firing a shot, current events in the country and across the world have supported our struggle in no little means and at the very right time, which may not be too far from now, a Sovereign State of Biafra will be born.”

BREAKING NEWS: REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA TO BE DECLARED NOVEMBER 5TH

A pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, announced, yesterday, that it had commenced the process to launch the struggle for a State of Biafra with the international community, saying that the formal declaration of the new Biafra Republic had been slated for November 5. full story inside

This came as Conference of Igbo Youth Organizations, CIYO, warned that Ndigbo “would no longer watch in silence while our brothers and sisters are slaughtered like animals” in the Northern States.
National President of BZM, Benjamin Onwuka, at a briefing said what prevented the realization of Biafra republic over the years was the inability to get the support of world powers, like the United States of America to back the project.

“As we approach the end of 13 years since the mobilization and struggle for Biafran Independence began under the aegis of MASSOB and other groups,  the people of Biafra have not made much effort in realizing our dreams because the struggle has been internalized since 1999,” Onwuka said.

He expressed regrets that the international community did not know the aspirations of the Biafra people, saying “Biafra must therefore be internationalized because the forces preventing the dreams for our independence are vested in the United Kingdom.

Biafra can only be achieved when we secure the support of the United States of America; the day USA comes to our side, that day we shall be free from Nigeria; the story of South Sudan where a bloody civil war was fought for over 24 years is a typical example.”

Meanwhile, the Igbo youths in a statement endorsed by 10 youth leaders, including the National Coordinator, Igbo Youth Grand Alliance, Dr. Uchenna Uchehara, who read it after their emergency meeting in Owerri yesterday said: “Events of the past few months in Nigeria have become very disturbing to stakeholders, especially the Igbo nation that played a major role in the founding of Nigeria and inspite of the tragedies of the Biafran war, resolved to give total support to one united Nigeria”.
