2 Pakistani girls shot dead for making a video of themselves dancing in the rain

Two teenage sisters, 16 year old Noor Basra and 15 year old Noor Sheza (both pictured above) were shot dead at their home in the town of Chilas, in Pakistan after a video showing the two girls laughing and dancing in the rain was circulated via mobile phones.

Apparently dancing with your sibling in the rain and filming it is a crime punishable by death in the Northern region of Gilgit. The video caused an outrage in the town and a few days later, five men invaded the girls home and shot them dead - for - wait for it - 'tarnishing their family's name'. Their mother was also shot dead.

The girls' step-brother, a man named Khutore, is being accused of arranging their murder because he allegedly wanted to 'restore the family's honour'. The sisters' other brother filed a case against him and the four other alleged accomplices who are now on the run. The police are investigating the case.

“Seun Adaramoye was an 100 level accounting student, she stayed in Stadium area around Lawyer Ahmed Junction, she’s a hostel mate and also my friend. On Sunday evening (16th of June), we were all gisting outside the hostel as we normally do and around 5pm, Seun just said she’s coming and left. She was on casual outfits like all of us, so we thought she had gone to the junction to buy stuffs but she went to her best friend’s place not far from the hostel.

   

“When Seun was leaving her best friend’s apartment, she told her that she wants to quickly get to her boyfriend’s place in Oke-Anu around 7pm on that same Sunday evening and that was the last time we both saw Seun.

“We didn’t even notice on time that she hasn’t returned cos she’s a female and no one can monitor a grown lady, so we assume that she should be with her boyfriend Lanre(REAL NAME) not until wednesday morning when Seun refused to show up for her last paper. Her friend came to check on her in the hostel and it was then that she informed us that Seun is no where to be found, we searched and searched for Seun but all to no avail.

On Thursday morning, we decided to report her dissappearance to the school authorities, that was when we heard the news of a dead body which was discovered at the back of Jastok Guest House…On getting there, we couldn’t identify the body because several parts of her body had been cut off, her breast, one hand, half her head was gone. We were eventually able to recognise Seun by her hairdo and mark on her leg, her birth mark and the remains of her cloth on the body.

So the police and the SUG were invited and they went after the boyfriend who had obviously absconded, so he has not been arrested as been speculated but his best friend was arrested. People thought he was arrested because of the search and the arrest of his best friend but he hasn’t been found till now, he’s gone into exile…On Searching Lanre’s house, the police found mysterious things like Calabash, Ladies Bra, Panties, Nails and several underwears.

Our friend Seun was NEVER a runs girl, she was a very gentle and loving soul, she was just unlucky to have fallen a victim of some desperate souls. She has since been buried by her brother here in Ogbomosho because the body was already decaying with worms all over and moreover it’s an uncompleted body and they won’t bury her like that in her hometown…May Her Soul RIP Forever”

Boston Bomber Shot Dead - Second Suspect On The Run

One of the Boston marathon bombing suspects has been killed and the other is on the run after a dramatic shoot-out in the city.

The alleged terrorist - dubbed 'Suspect 1' by the FBI - died in hospital after a university patrol cop was shot dead on campus and explosions and machine gunfire rocked the city's Watertown area.

Police said he had a bomb strapped to his chest and fear the second man - named 'Suspect 2' - who is still on the loose, is armed with explosives and "wants to kill people".

The one with the black cap was shot in a gun battle with Police and died at the hospital, while the one with the white cap is still on the run.



Police warned that 'Suspect 2', who was seen on CCTV wearing a white baseball cap, is a "threat to anybody that might approach him" and have warned Boston residents not to answer their doors to anyone.

Both the dead man and hunted man are "responsible for the bombings" on Monday which killed three people and wounded 176, police confirmed.

Nigerian woman, Franca Abumen, brutallly murdered in Rome

A 27 year old Nigerian woman, Franca Abumen, believed to be a commercial sex worker living in Rome, Italy, has met her untimely death in the hands of yet to be identified persons who brutally murdered her and dumped her body in the woods of Stifone, between Narni Waters, in Rome.

Franca's body was found 24 hours after she was murdered on Sunday December 9th after her friends reported her missing when she failed to return home from a night of work.

Franca was found in the woods with her ankles tied and a black cord around her neck. Police believe she was sexually assaulted and strangled. The police in Rome are investigating the case.

Former Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Toyin Hamzat Murdered

Toyin Hamzat, a former chairman of Ikeja Local Government has been killed. He was murdered early hours of today on his way back to his house in Sagamu, after a party in Lagos. According to reports, nothing was touched in his car. They shot him and fled.

The hope is the worst part of it.
The way they lay there, beaten and broken, battered and bruised. Knowing their end had come for certain. Knowing that the crowd meant to see this through to the end. And yet, in the midst of all this certainty, in some small corner of their hearts, hoping. That something would happen, some miracle perhaps.

I am speaking of course, of the #Aluu4, students of University of Port Harcourt who were beaten and set ablaze last week.

I'd heard the news sometime last week and devoted all of 10 seconds of thought to it. I wondered briefly who the students were, and what could possibly have driven them to steal. I briefly wondered if they were really guilty but my mind quickly shied away from where that road could lead. I remembered all the stories I grew up hearing about thieves and the instant justice meted out to them, and mentally shook my head.

That would have been all, I suppose, but for the video. It is probably the most gruesome thing I have ever seen, and the worst I ever hope to see.

Hope.

There, I've said it again. Somehow it seems there is no escaping it.

Because when things like this happen, it seems our default reaction is to hope it will never happen to us or any one we know or love. Then we hope that our religion and hard work and luck will exempt us from senseless suffering. Sometimes we hope that right thing will be done, the wrong doers brought to book, and the victims receive some sort of justice.

Every day we hope the country we live in will be a better place for us and for our children.

And that is the problem with hope.

That we have allowed it to cripple us and render us inactive.

You , me, all of us who sit by hoping and doing nothing to change.

The question is not whether or not the 4 boys stole anything. That is quite besides the point.

Let us ask instead: What do I need to ensure my children do not grow up hearing stories like these?

What would it cost to make this country and are we willing to pay the price?

Because if I were there that day, would I have spoken up and done my best to put a stop to it? Or silently stood by, condemning the actions in my heart, but doing nothing? Would I have been seized by the bloodlust and fear and anger myself, and spurred them on with my shouts, and cries for blood, maybe tossed in a rock or two for good measure.

The society is a mirror of each of us. It is sad and sickening that this was allowed to happen. It shows us all what we are capable of, what w will each do given the right set of circumstances.

These 4 murdered men, their deaths should not be in vain. If anything good could come out of a mess so sordid, let it be that every Nigerian begins to think about the problem and what to do to solve it.  Let it be that we understand the problem is ourselves and our failure to take a stand against injustice and lawlessness over the years. Let it be that we promise ourselves never to let this happen again. Not on our land. Not as long as we're alive.

I hope this time we get it right

13 arrested over killing of four UNIPORT students for stealing

Thirteen persons, including the Chief of the Omokere Aluu community, in River State, have been arrested in connection with the killings of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, who were accused of stealing.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers state, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, who confirmed the arrest stated that some arrests were made in Aluu. “The Rivers state police command is strongly opposed to such barbaric conduct, and has commenced diligent investigation into the matter,” he said, adding that the video was forming part of the investigation.

US Ambassador To libya Killed + US Marine anti-terrorism team heads to Libya

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday the killing of the US envoy to Libya and three others by “a small and savage group” should “shock” people of all faiths around the world.

Paying tribute to Ambassador Chris Stevens and his American co-workers killed when militants attacked the US mission in Benghazi, Clinton vowed the United States would not turn its back on Libya as it builds a new future.

“This is an attack that should shock conscience of people of all faiths around the world,” she said in a somber statement at the State Department.

“We condemn in the strongest terms, this senseless act of violence, and we send our prayers to the families, friends and colleagues of those we’ve lost.”

She praised the work of Stevens, who was appointed ambassador to Libya in May, after the toppling of former dictator Moamer Kadhafi. full details inside

“He risked his life to stop a tyrant, then gave his life trying to build a better Libya,” she said after he was killed in an attack by a mob of militants angered over a movie mocking Islam which stormed the US consulate.

The deaths have shocked the close-knit community at State Department, and after giving a statement at the White House President Barack Obama was due to visit the building to pay tribute to those killed.

Clinton said the events in Benghazi were especially difficult as they came on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and she had asked herself “how could this happen? How could this happen in a country we helped liberate, in a city we helped save from destruction?”

“We must be clear-eyed even in our grief. This was an attack by a small and savage group. Not the people or government of Libya,” Clinton said, adding that Stevens and his team had been welcomed across Libya as “friends and partners.”

She stressed that during Tuesday’s attack Libyans had fought to defend the mission, and some were wounded. Others carried Stevens’s body to the hospital, and “they helped rescue and lead other Americans to safety.”

“The friendship between our countries, born out of shared struggle, will not be another casualty of this attack,” Clinton said, vowing that those behind the attack would be brought to justice.

“A free and stable Libya is still in America’s interests and security, and we will not turn our back on that.”

Air Force veteran Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer, was also killed in Tuesday’s attack, Clinton said, adding the families of the other two deceased were still being notified.

“We are working to determine the precise motivations and methods of those who carried out this assault,” Clinton said.

“Some have thought to justify this vicious behavior along with the protests that took place at our embassy in Cairo yesterday as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet.

“But let me be clear. There is no justification for this. None. Violence like this is no way to honor religion or faith.”

The US leader paid tribute to Ambassador Chris Stevens and his slain colleagues, who died when a mob of Libyan protesters angered by reports of a film deemed insulting to Islam, stormed the US compound.

“The Marines are sending a FAST (Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team) team to Libya,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

The decision to move the roughly 50-member unit to Libya comes after Washington’s ambassador to Tripoli and three other Americans were killed when a mob stormed the US consulate in Benghazi. The crowd had been angered over an amateur American-made film mocking Islam, after video clips from the movie had been posted on the Internet.

The low-budget movie, “Innocence of Muslims,” in which actors have strong American accents, portrays Muslims as immoral and gratuitously violent.

President Barack Obama quickly ordered increased security at US diplomatic posts around the world, while slamming Tuesday’s deadly assault in Benghazi — an Islamist stronghold in eastern Libya — which coincided with the anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the United States.

Another student shot dead: RIP Wunmi Adebayo

This time it's a female student of Tai Solarin University of Education. According to classmates and friends of the slain student who sent the story to me, Wunmi Adebayo (pictured above) was shot dead last night at a male friend's house at Golden Estate in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state. The 200level student was visiting the friend when they were attacked by armed robbers who robbed them and shot her in the face because she fought them off when they tried to rape her. The 21 year old was buried today. Her friends say she was very jovial, friendly and kind hearted.
